Experiential Designer (3-month contract to full-time)
THE ROLE:
MoonLab is seeking an Experiential Designer with real range and enough experience to operate independently, carrying creative concepts from first sketch through final design across our experiential events, brand activations, exhibit/tradeshows and conferences. You’ll own your deliverables end-to-end, speak directly with clients, and bring strong creative judgment to every project. You’ll split your time between graphic execution (decks, signage, environmental graphics) and spatial design (layouts, elevations, and early mockups), working closely with producers, graphic vendors and fabrication partners to make sure everything we ship is polished, on-brand, and buildable.
We’re a small, agile team, so this role is both hands-on and collaborative. You’re comfortable taking ownership and making strong creative calls without needing much oversight, and you’ll have producers and creative leadership around you as collaborators. As the team grows, there may be opportunities to help guide more junior designers joining after you.
Key Responsibilities
- Design graphic and spatial assets for brand activations, tradeshows, pop-ups, and conferences, including signage, print collateral, and environmental graphics
- Build concept decks and pitch presentations with strong visual storytelling, working from creative direction set collaboratively by creative and production teams
- Contribute to brainstorming sessions and ideation, adding both creative and strategic input
- Produce to-scale layout and elevation drawings in SketchUp, CAD or Rhino (or any other drafting software/tools) to communicate design intent to fabrication teams
- Produce CAD drawing packs, including relevant specification documents, to support fabrication and production handoff
- Explore 3D renderings and AI-assisted ideation tools (e.g. Midjourney) to help sell concepts before they’re built
- Research materials, finishes, and lighting approaches that balance creative ambition with budget and fabrication realities
- Partner with production and fabrication vendors to move designs from concept through execution, and support site visits and on-site installation as needed
- Maintain and apply client brand guidelines across all deliverables, flagging inconsistencies before they reach a client
- Own formatting and visual consistency across creative decks, recap decks, and internal presentations
- Prepare print-ready and production-ready files, coordinating directly with print and fabrication vendors
- Present design concepts to clients, incorporate feedback quickly, and offer budget-conscious alternatives that protect the creative vision
- Stay current on trends in branding, spatial design, and digital/social platforms to keep our work fresh
You Bring
- Education or training in Graphic Design, Environmental / Exhibition Design, Event Design, or a related field
- 3–5 years of experience in experiential, environmental, or graphic design, ideally within an agency or brand setting
- A strong portfolio spanning both brand/graphic work and spatial design, with a solid grasp of color theory, typography, and layout
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Figma, and Google Slides
- Working knowledge of SketchUp, with some exposure to AutoCAD, to produce scaled layouts and elevations
- Understanding of print production, pre-press, and color management, with experience coordinating with print vendors
- Comfort presenting design concepts directly to clients and internal teams
- A solid understanding of how people move through and experience a space, and how that shapes design decisions
- High attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once under tight deadlines without losing sight of the creative vision
- Alignment with MoonLab’s mission pillars
Bonus Skills
- Exposure to 3D rendering tools (Rhino, 3ds Max, V-Ray, Lumion, or similar)
- Motion graphics or video editing experience (Adobe Premiere, After Effects)
- Familiarity with AI design tools for concepting and ideation
- Copywriting or storytelling skills for pitch decks
- Knowledge of sustainability best practices in physical design
